Tragedy in D.C.: Israeli Diplomatic Staff Fatally Wounded Days Before Engagement

Tal Naim, a spokesperson for the embassy and a close friend of the victims, shared a moving tribute. “Instead of walking you down the aisle, we are walking with you to your graves,” she said. “What an unbearable loss.”

The Israeli embassy confirmed the victims’ identities the following morning, posting a heartfelt statement along with a photo of the couple.

“Yaron and Sarah were our friends and colleagues,” the statement read. “They were in the prime of their lives. The entire embassy staff is heartbroken and devastated by their loss.”

The event they attended was a “Young Diplomats Reception” hosted by the American Jewish Committee. It aimed to bring together young Jewish professionals between the ages of 22 and 45.

Yaron Lischinsky, 30, had moved to Washington in 2022 from Jerusalem. A standout student, he once attended a Model UN conference in Paris and was named “delegate of the week.”

He was known for his interest in international cooperation and diplomacy. On his LinkedIn profile, he expressed strong support for the Abraham Accords and interfaith dialogue.
