The Las Vegas veterinarian who was discovered dead in a lake after being captured on camera kicking a horse has had the cause of death verified.

After being seen on camera kicking a horse in the face, a Las Vegas veterinarian was discovered dead in a lake with a certified cause of death.

On April 18, Dr. Shawn Frehner, 56, was discovered dead in the waters of Lake Mead, a sizable reservoir that spans Arizona and Nevada.

Authorities found his truck and a number of personal belongings abandoned close to the shoreline the week before, according to PEOPLE, which prompted them to begin a search.

After being reported missing on April 6, his identity was verified on April 21, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Shortly after an unsettling video of Frehner physically abusing a horse during a medical procedure went viral online, he vanished. Shawna Gonzalez, a longstanding customer of Frehner’s whose horse, Big Red, was abused, captured the video, which caused a stir on social media.
