was treated for minor injuries and released, while the third juvenile, who was unharmed, remains unnamed.
According to an ABC 7 News report, the surviving teens explained to police that the incident was part of a prank known as “ding-dong ditch,”
in which participants ring doorbells and run away before the homeowner answers.
The teens explained that they had been playing the prank at several homes and planned to upload the video online as part of a social media trend.
Following the shooting, the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of the homeowner, Tyler Chase Butler, 27.
He was charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
