“It only takes a few inches of water to sweep away even an adult,” a spokesperson from the Frankfort Fire Department said. “We urge everyone to be cautious, especially during heavy rainfall.”
Counselors have been made available to students and staff at Hearn Elementary School, as the community grapples with the heartbreaking loss.
“This is a time for us to come together and support each other,” said Principal Janet Ruiz. “Gabriel’s memory will always remain a part of our school family.” The Frankfort Police Department is still investigating the incident, though foul play is not suspected.
Gabriel’s parents have expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, thanking the community for standing by them in their time of grief.
“Gabriel was our little angel,” his mother said in a statement. “We are heartbroken but so grateful for the kindness everyone has shown.” A candlelight vigil is planned for next Friday at Hearn Elementary School to honor Gabriel’s life and to provide a space for healing and remembrance. “Hold your loved ones a little tighter,” Swails concluded in her post. “We never know when it could be the last time.”
