A teacher from Kentucky is mourning the loss of a 9-year-old student who tragically lost his life after being swept away by floodwaters while walking to a school bus stop last week.
Kasey Swails, a teacher at Hearn Elementary School, shared a heartfelt tribute to her student, Gabriel Andrews, in a Facebook post, describing him as a “bright star” who could light up any room.
Swails recounted how Gabriel would always greet her with a cheerful “Good morning!” as he passed by her classroom door, a daily gesture that now haunts her in his absence.
“He was the sweetest boy who would always make you smile,” Swails wrote. “It’s so hard to comprehend that he’s gone.”
Gabriel was walking to his bus stop in Frankfort, Kentucky, on the morning of April 4th when sudden flooding swept him away, according to authorities. The devastating incident has left the Hearn Elementary School community in shock, with teachers and classmates struggling to process the loss.
