According to John Anderson, a train conductor who witnessed the event, the teens appeared to be “in their own little world,” unaware of the impending danger.
Engineer Michael Anderson, who was operating the train, said he attempted to warn the teens by repeatedly sounding the train’s horn.
“We watched in horror as we got closer,” John said. “We saw them for about 12 seconds until they disappeared from our sight as the train continued moving forward.”
After the train came to a stop, John rushed to the tracks and discovered that Essa and Kelsea had not survived the impact.
Savannah, though critically injured, was still breathing. John tried to comfort her, telling her that everything would be okay.
“I hoped she would make it, and for some reason, I really thought she would,” John said, reflecting on the tragic event.
