As Harvey tried to escape, the men gave chase and caught up with him just aisles away. They tackled him to the ground and kept him pinned until officers arrived on scene.
Video footage captured the takedown as the men worked together to subdue the suspect. When he resisted, they forced him to his knees and held him firmly in place.
Miami-Dade Police confirmed that 28-year-old Harvey was arrested and charged with attempted rape. Officials credited the bystanders with stopping a potentially far worse crime in progress.
Investigators later revealed that Harvey was already on probation when the assault occurred. The violent nature of the act raised concerns that there may be more victims out there.
During his court appearance, Judge Mindy Glazer described the attack as “deeply disturbing.” She ordered Harvey to stay away from the victim and banned him from returning to the Walmart.
