New Mexico Police Use Non-Lethal Force to Disarm Young Boys in Armed Standoff

New Mexico Police Forced to Confront Two Young Boys After They Refused to Drop Handgun

New Mexico police officers were forced to shoot at two young boys, aged just seven and nine, after they refused to drop a handgun, ignoring deputies’ orders.

Intense video footage, released on Friday, shows the boys—wearing Minecraft and Star Wars pajamas—passing a fully loaded gun back and forth.

The video, captured on February 16, shows the children handling the weapon carelessly, at times pointing it recklessly at each other and the deputies, as though it were a toy.

At one point, one of the boys pulled the trigger, but the weapon malfunctioned by sheer luck. With no other options available, officers at the scene eventually fired non-lethal rounds at the wall of the home rather than directly at the boys. Despite multiple pleas to drop the gun, the boys continued to hold onto it.
