A firearm with an extended magazine was recovered at the scene, though police confirmed it had not been discharged.
Michael Wright, the attorney representing the Hinton family, confirmed that Ryan had just turned 18 and said the family is still processing the incident.“They’re surprised and distraught about what happened,” Wright told reporters.
The family viewed the body cam footage Friday morning. Wright described Rodney Hinton Jr. as “very emotionally affected” after seeing the events that led to his son’s death.
“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around this tragedy,” he added, noting that a formal public records request has been filed for additional information.
Rodney Hinton Jr. made his initial court appearance on Saturday in front of a Hamilton County judge. The courtroom was filled with law enforcement personnel.
His public defender, Tom Ewing, acknowledged the emotional atmosphere and requested a reasonable bond, which was denied. The investigation into both incidents is ongoing.
