The next time she opened her eyes, she was in the ICU, covered in blood with her dress ripped.
Doctors told her she had broken her neck, suffering fractures in her C4 and C5 vertebrae. Etienne had also undergone surgery after suffering a cut to his eye.
Despite her severe injuries, Brown was told she was incredibly lucky. If the impact had been even slightly different, she likely wouldn’t have survived.
“They said the only reason I wasn’t thrown from the car was that the seatbelt somehow tangled around me,” she says. “I shouldn’t have made it out alive.”
After a few difficult days in the ICU, Brown was discharged and sent home wearing a brace around the clock.
