A Washington Post representative described Robinson’s sudden departure as a “retirement” in a statement, according to The Wrap.
According to the spokesman, “his reporting and commentary spanned continents and beats for 45 years, earning countless recognitions, including a Pulitzer Prize.”
“Eugene’s legacy as a leading voice in American journalism has been cemented by his strong perspective and impeccable integrity, which have regularly shaped our public discourse.”
He attributed his departure to Jeff Bezos’ intention to have the Opinion page exclusively highlight his support for “personal liberties and free markets.”
Since then, Robinson has told Fox News that he is simply leaving The Post and not from journalism altogether.
