Speaking to People magazine, Maye says never in her wildest dreams did she think she would be on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
“My first reaction was, I could never dream up something like that because why would anyone have a 74-year-old on their cover, especially in a swimsuit.
I do think it’s going to make women feel more comfortable in their seventies when they swim, as well as women in their twenties and thirties,” she told the publication.
Maye’s story also highlights important issues like wellness in older adults and the role of proper nutrition and chronic illness management as part of healthy aging.
As a certified dietitian, her focus on nutrition science over decades reflects broader trends in prenatal care and preventative health, which are critical to maintaining vitality through all life stages.
