A 68-year-old father has been arrested by Brazilian police, accused of drugging and mistreating his two daughters over the course of a year.
The elderly man, whose identity was not disclosed by police in Juazeiro do Norte, in the state of Ceara, Brazil, reportedly confined the sisters in unhygienic conditions, tying them to filthy mattresses surrounded by refuse in a makeshift room in his home.
Shocking police evidence photos show one daughter with her feet bound together with a makeshift restraint while the other sister appears unconscious on a stained mattress.
Both sisters were found severely underweight and suffering from malnutrition and dehydration when they were rescued during a police raid on May 5, following a tip-off from a concerned neighbor.
Sources believe the mistreatment had been ongoing for at least a year.
The sisters, aged 36 and 38, are now recovering in an emergency care unit in the Limoeiro neighborhood.
