Amazon’s response comes as the company faces criticism from the White House over plans to disclose the impact of tariffs on customer receipts.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned Amazon’s move as a “political act,” arguing that the company did not take similar steps when inflation rates soared in previous years.
Leavitt also pointed to past allegations involving Amazon’s operations in China, displaying a 2021 Reuters headline that accused Amazon of collaborating with Chinese state media.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy addressed the tariff controversy, stating that some price adjustments are inevitable given rising costs in various sectors.
According to data from SmartScout, nearly 1,000 products on Amazon’s U.S. marketplace have seen price increases of up to 30%, particularly in tech accessories and women’s apparel. Despite the backlash, Amazon maintains that it is committed to transparency and customer service.
