Parents of 4-Year-Old Passed Away in Separate Car Crashes Just Hours Apart After Father Speeds to Scene

A Louisiana family is grieving a devastating double tragedy after two young parents died in separate car crashes just hours apart—leaving behind their 4-year-old son.

Alexus Lee, 25, and John “JR” Collins, 35, were engaged and had recently purchased a new home together. The couple was planning to marry in February 2026. But on May 16, their dreams were shattered in the most heartbreaking way.

According to a press release from Louisiana State Police, both parents died in single-vehicle crashes along LA 67 in separate parishes—less than two hours apart.

The first crash occurred just after 2:00 a.m. in East Baton Rouge Parish. Police say Alexus Lee was driving a 2013 Toyota Highlander northbound near Lemon Road when her SUV left the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned.

Lee, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A routine toxicology test was conducted, and authorities continue to investigate whether impairment played a role.
